Online shopping with augmented reality (AR) is getting a whole lot simpler on iOS devices thanks to AR Quick Look. This is an exceptional feature for iOS 12 which allows direct AR support from Safari browser.
According to TechCrunch, AR Quick Look has been brought to roughly 600,000 online stores which are running on Shopify’s platform. This means that more and more customers can view products in augmented reality without having to download additional apps, thus, reducing friction in their shopping journey.
In order to show off this functionality, Shopify recently released a trailer:
Many sites who have extended AR Quick Look functionality for their stores are enjoying great benefits it offers especially those whose visitors are mainly mobile visitors. For example, Pure Cycles, the company which was chosen for the trailer reports that more than half of their visitors are mobile visitors while 70 % percent of those come via Safari. Jordan Schau, the co-founder of Pure Cycles said that having this functionality baked in their store is “already taking an increasing share of our traffic”
For shops with the higher proportion of desktop or chrome visitors, however, don’t see any benefit as these browsers don’t support AR quick look.
In conclusion, Shopify is one of the largest e-commerce platforms and its great support for Apple’ AR is undeniable. AR Quick look can be a powerful tool for any sites to get higher conversion rate and generate countless sales, but only when they are able to create 3D models – not a simple task.
